About this stone
Few mineral combinations are as visually arresting as black tourmaline on feldspar matrix, and this specimen from Pakistan's legendary crystal-producing regions delivers the formula at its most dramatic. A single tall column of jet-black schorl tourmaline rises from a creamy, textured feldspar base — the striated prism faces running clean and parallel from base to termination, the contrast between glossy black crystal and warm ivory matrix as stark and satisfying as ink on parchment.
The vertical form is everything here. At 11 centimeters tall, this is a statement piece — the kind of specimen that stands upright on a shelf and commands the space around it rather than sitting quietly among other things. The tourmaline itself shows excellent luster on the prism faces, with the characteristic parallel striations running the full length of the crystal that are one of tourmaline's most distinctive identifying features.
Pakistan's Skardu region has earned its reputation as one of the world's finest sources for tourmaline specimens of exceptional crystal quality and matrix presentation. This piece earns its place in that tradition.
