About this stone
This exceptional combination specimen originates from the high-altitude pegmatite veins of Kunar or Nuristan Province, Afghanistan — a region world-famous for producing some of the finest morganite, tourmaline, and kunzite on Earth. The dominant mineral is cleavelandite, the platy bladed variety of albite feldspar (NaAlSi3O8), displaying its signature fan-like rosette growth habit with razor-sharp cleavage planes catching light at every angle. Nestled within the cavities and interstices of the cleavelandite plates are small but gemmy pale peach-pink morganite (pink beryl, Be3Al2Si6O18) crystals, displaying well-formed hexagonal outlines and characteristic soft coloration caused by trace manganese. Under shortwave ultraviolet light, this specimen becomes breathtaking: the cleavelandite matrix fluoresces a brilliant blue-white while the morganite crystals emit a vivid orange-yellow glow — a dual-fluorescence display rarely seen so clearly in a single hand specimen. The yellowish staining on the matrix faces is typical of iron oxide weathering from the oxidizing pegmatite environment, adding geological authenticity. The combination of cleavelandite and morganite is a classic paragenetic association in lithium-rich granitic pegmatites, where sodium feldspar and beryl crystallize together in the final, volatile-rich stages of magmatic cooling. This piece represents millions of years of geological history compressed into a striking, collectible specimen. Every rock has a story. ✦
