Deep in the Karakoram ranges of Gilgit-Baltistan, ancient pegmatite veins crystallized under enormous pressure, producing some of the world's most prized tourmaline. This 1.2-kilogram matrix specimen brings that story home — vivid green verdelite tourmaline crystals, striated along their length in the classic tourmaline fashion, emerge from a bed of milky quartz and creamy feldspar that formed alongside them millions of years ago.
